The Northeastern Lady Knights hosted their annual Wings and Rings Winter Classic on Monday, Dec. 29, and Tuesday, Dec. 30. The tournament, which was named the top girls tournament in Indiana by the Indianapolis Star, drew top teams from all enrollment classifications around the state. The first two rounds were played on Monday, Dec. 29.

Round one

Lapel defeated Delta 56-44

Floyd Central defeated Heritage Christian 50-36

South Knox defeated Northeastern 58-35

The South Knox Lady Spartans, the defending 2A state champions and currently ranked third in the 2A poll, had little trouble defeating the Lady Knights. The Spartans took an early lead and steadily pulled away. Ady Kircher led the Lady Knights with 15 points. 

Northeastern (35): Ady Kircher 15, Mackenzie Johnson 7, Macey Oler 4, Brooklynne Adams 3, Sammi Kircher 3, Karri Gammon 2, Fiona Breitenbach 1

Connersville defeated Borden 57-44

Round two

Heritage Christian defeated Delta  62-49

Borden defeated Northeastern 60-49. 

The Borden Lady Braves, the defending 1A state champion and currently ranked first in the 1A poll, dominated the offensive glass and defeated Northeastern 60-49. Ady Kircher scored 21 points to lead the Knights. 

Northeastern (49): Ady Kircher 21, Gammon 9, Johnson 7, Kendall Patterson 5, Sammi Kircher 3, Breitenbach 2, Oler 1,  Adams 1

Floyd Central defeated Lapel 65-37

Connersville defeated South Knox 60-49

Championship round

Seventh place game: Delta (10-4) 46, Northeastern (7-7) 42

After facing defending state champions in each of their first two games, the Lady Knights played Delta in the championship round for seventh place. The Lady Eagles were a semi-state team last season and are currently ranked eighth in the 3A poll. The Lady Knights were forced to play without leading scorer Ady Kircher who missed the game with an injury. The Lady Knights battled to the end before losing by the final four point margin. Johnson led the Knights with 14 points, Breitenbach and Adams each scored 10 points.

Northeastern (42): Adams 10, Oler 0, Breitenbach 10, Patterson 3, Johnson 14, Gammon 5

Fifth-place game: Borden (11-2) 59, Heritage Christian (9-6) 

Third-place game: South Knox (12-3) 64, Lapel (12-3) 48 

Championship game: Floyd Central (13-2) 47, Connersville (9-6) 32
