Betty Jean Cougill, 71, of Modoc, passed away in the presence of her loving family on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at Parker Health Care after an extended illness.
She was born in Winchester, IN on December 2, 1945 to Sheldon and Gertrude (Moore) Ayres and was a lifelong resident of Randolph County.
Betty retired from the US Postal Service in 2010 as Postmaster of the Economy, IN post office. After retiring she indulged in her love of quilting and garage sales.
She leaves to cherish her quick wit and sense of humor, her husband of 49 years, Myron, her mother, Gertrude Ayres of Winchester, her twins, Michelle McGunegill (Randy Tutterrow) of Economy and Mike (Ginger) Cougill of Modoc; four grandchildren, Ashley McGunegill, Logan (Maranda) Cougill and their son John, Simon (Courtney) Cougill and their daughter Harper, and Lane Cougill; two siblings Marlene (Larry) Barnes of Winchester and Ron (Anna) Ayres of Gahanna, OH; and several nieces, nephews and many special friends.
Memorial services were Friday, August 11 at Culberson Funeral Home in Hagerstown, IN. Pastor Stephen Conner officiated with burial at Buena Vista Cemetery.
