Richmond’s newest summer baseball team is named the Flying Mummies.

The Northwoods League team will begin play next summer in McBride Stadium with a name honoring the city’s two museum exhibits featuring mummies as well as its connection with the Wright Brothers.

The name was unveiled during an Oct. 7 ceremony at the Wayne County Historical Museum.

The museum and Earlham College’s Joseph Moore Museum both display mummified human remains brought to Indiana from Egypt. The Wright Brothers spent time in Richmond before moving to Ohio and taking flight for the first time in North Carolina.

Other finalists for the team’s name were the Groove, Plastic Dinos, Stardust and Wampus Cats.
