The Northeastern Knights football team hosted Winchester on Friday, Sept. 5, in a key Tri-Eastern Conference game. Northeastern took control of the game early, taking a 21-0 halftime lead and extending it to 35-7 in the second half.
The Falcons came out flat and Knight quarterback Marshall Phillips made them pay by attacking the Winchester secondary with some big numbers, breaking the game open in the second quarter. Phillips connected with Caden Retter on a 53-yard TD pass in the second quarter and a 46-yard TD pass to Trent Deloney in the final minute of the first half to extend the Knights’ lead to 21-0 at halftime.
The Knight defense continued to hold the Falcons out of the end zone in the third quarter while the offense increased their advantage to 28-0 entering the fourth quarter. Phillips connected with Deloney on an 85-yard touchdown with less than eight minutes to go in the fourth quarter to push the Knights’ lead to 35-7.
The Falcons finally scored late in the fourth quarter to make the final score 35-7.
Phillips completed 11 of 14 pass attempts for 284 yards and three touchdowns for the game. No other statistics were available.
Northeastern will stay in league play next week when they travel to Cambridge City for a game on Friday, Sept 12.
