The Hagerstown football team made the long trip to Union City on Friday, Sept. 5, for a Tri-Eastern Conference game between two winless teams. Hagerstown was the aggressor from the opening kick. The Tigers won the opening toss and deferred to the Indians. 

The Indians went four and out and punted to Hagerstown. The Tigers scored on their first play from scrimmage when Graham Vinson threw a touchdown pass to Isaac Schmitz. Cale Schmitz added the PAT kick to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead 90 seconds into the game. 

On the second play from scrimmage, on their next possession, the Indians fumbled the ball and Gus Golliher recovered it for the Tigers. Vinson connected with Nick Tinkle at 6:01 on a pass play and Cale Schmitz added the PAT.  On their next play from scrimmage, the Indians fumbled the ball and Vinson recovered it for the Tigers.

With 4:16 remaining in the first quarter, Vinson threw a TD pass to Arlin Berger. Cale Schmitz added the PAT to make the score 21-0. 

The Tigers added two more scores in the second quarter. The first came four seconds into the second quarter when Vinson connected with Keith Lumpkin on a TD pass. With 4:21 remaining in the second quarter, Vinson threw a TD pass to Ben Hokey. Cale Schmitz kicked PATs after each to give the Tigers a 35-0 lead to trigger a running clock in the second half.

The Tigers were content with the lead they had and ran time off the clock for most of the second half. Vinson threw a TD to Landon Thornburg with 9:41 remaining in the game to make the final score 41-0.

Vinson completed 18 of 25 passes for six touchdowns. The six TD passes were a career high. 

Nine different receivers caught passes for Hagerstown; six were for touchdowns. Isaac Schmitz caught four passes for 65 yards. Jaxon Hale caught four passes for 56 yards. Vinson was also the leading rusher for the Tigers with 60 yards. Cale Schmitz led the defense with 11 tackles, and Heath Johnson had 8 tackles.

Tiger head coach Scott Snodgrass said he was pleased with his team’s play. “I thought our O-line played well,” Snodgrass said. “Graham (Vinson) played well and made good decisions, and our receivers did a good job. We did not have a good practice Wednesday but they responded well since, and we are looking to keep our standards high and improve every week.”

The Tigers will stay on the road for another TEC conference game next week when they travel to Liberty on Friday, Sept. 12, to play Union County.
