The Lincoln Lady Golden Eagles entertained the Shenandoah Lady Raiders on Thursday, Sept. 4, in a nonconference volleyball match. A back-and-forth, high-pressure five-set match ensued before the visiting Raiders claimed a hard-fought 3-2 victory.
The Raiders opened the match with a strong hitting game for a first set 25-10 win, but the Lady Eagles were able to get their offense rolling to take a second set 25-21 win.
The third set was all Shenandoah, who took a convincing 12-25 win, before the Eagles clawed back behind a hustling defense to take a 25-23 win to tie the match at two sets each.

In a reflection of both teams’ evening efforts, the fifth set began with neither team able to open more than a single point lead, but the Lady Raiders’ defense eventually gave them the separation they needed for a 15-7 to win the match in five sets.
Reilynn Ferguson led the Eagle offensive tempo with eight kills, two service points and a service ace.
The duo of Grace Smith and Paige Pitcock tallied three kills each and Pitcock added four service aces and two service points. Luna Garcia directed the action with 19 assists, three service aces and a service point. Senior Alyssa Waddell had a solid night with two kills, three service aces and a service point.
Defensively, Pitcock led the way for Lincoln with 37 digs, a solo block and two block assists. Rounding out the defensive efforts were Garcia with 20 digs, Ferguson with 19, Smith with 12, Taylor Bell with 11 and Waddell with seven. At the net, Ferguson had four solo blocks and three block assists while Riley Morrell had two solos.
