Girls golf teams from Centerville, Hagerstown, Lincoln, Northeastern and Richmond will hit the ground running in the next two weeks to kick off the high school fall sports season.
The Richmond Lady Red Devils will likely have Wayne County’s best team. The Devils return every member of their North Central Conference championship and sectional runner-up team from a season ago — Emma French, Priya Hodges, Kyla Rogan, Hannah Stearley and Peyton Walton — and are clear sectional contenders.
Northeastern could also be a sectional contender. The Lady Knights graduated No. 1 golfer Lauren Lacey from their regional qualifying team last season, but Ava Bales, Julia Beatty, Macey Oler and Makayla Hopkin all return.
Centerville will return Emma Staton and Lilah Bellew, who both qualified to advance to the regional last season as individuals, to anchor the Lady Bulldog lineup that will include several new faces.
Hagerstown and Lincoln will be unproven for the most part.
Hagerstown will return several players who played at the JV level last season, but Emily Hill is the sole returnee for Hagerstown from last season’s sectional roster.
Alyson Clayton and Ashby Jones will be the only players at Lincoln with prior sectional playing experience.
Richmond High School will host the first meet of the season at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4, when they host the 12-team Richmond Invitational at the Richmond Elks Golf Course. Centerville will be in the field.
Union County will host an invitational at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the Liberty Country Club. Northeastern and Richmond will participate.
Richmond will also travel to Anderson on Thursday, Aug. 7, for a North Central Conference match with the Indians at 5 p.m.
Lincoln is scheduled to open their season on Friday, Aug. 8, with a match against Union County at the Liberty Country Club at 5 p.m.
Hagerstown is scheduled to open on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at Wapahani at 5 p.m.
