The Cambridge City Lincoln softball team defeated Union City 12-6 in the 1A No. 56 sectional championship game played at Wilson Park on Tuesday, May 27.
The Lady Eagles broke from a scoreless tie after two innings to score two runs in the third inning and added three more runs in the fourth inning to build a 5-0 lead. The Lady Indians fought back to tie the game with five runs in the fifth inning.
The Eagles responded with seven runs in the last two innings to pull away to a 12-6 win. The Eagles got a strong hitting performance up and down their lineup. Lexi McPheeters, Addyson Pitcock, Paige Pitcock and Keilyn Sherwood each collected three hits. Samantha Bell and Gabrielle Patterson each had two hits. Emma Blankley, Lindsey Evans and Gabby Ordonez each had two hits for the tribe.
The sectional title was the eighth in the history of the Lincoln program. The Lady Eagles will travel to Southwood, the winner of sectional 55, for the regional championship game on Tuesday, June 3. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
