Nine-year-old Centerville diver Laney Estes qualified for an Amateur Athletic Union Nationals diving event called the Red, White and Blue Nationals to be held in Huntsville, North Carolina, over Memorial Day weekend.
Estes qualified for the event in the 10-11 age group by placing third in the one-meter springboard and fourth in the three-meter springboard at a qualifier recently held at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Even though she was only nine during the qualifier, Laney competed against older girls because she will turn 10 prior to the Red, White and Blue Nationals.
Centerville High School swim coach Brad Whited describes Estes as “a very talented little girl who is making waves all over the country in the diving world.”
