IU EAST BASKETBALL ROUNDUP FOR FEBRUARY 4
WOMEN
RICHMOND, Ind. – The Indiana University East women’s basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak by defeating, in comeback fashion, the University of Rio Grande 87-80 on Feb. 4.
The River States Conference victory on Lingle Court avenged an earlier loss at Rio Grande.
Addie Brown scored a game-high 24 points and led a trio of Red Wolves in double figures. Kamiylah Bomar (17 points) and Reagan Hune (16 points) also reached double figures.
Kaylie Apperson scored all of her points in the first quarter and led six Rio Grande players in double figures with 15 points.
With the win, IU East improves to 8-18 overall and 6-6 in the conference. Rio Grande falls to 16-10 overall and 8-4 in the conference.
IU East rallied from a 20-point first-half deficit to earn the win.
IU East will travel to West Virginia on Feb. 8. The Red Wolves face the league-leading WVU Tech Golden Bears at 1 p.m.
MEN
RICHMOND, Ind. – The Indiana University East men’s basketball team continued its winning ways on when it defeated the University of Rio Grande 79-57 on Lingle Court on Feb. 4.
This was the seventh straight win for the Red Wolves, who stay in a tie atop the River States Conference East Division. The Red Wolves had three players in double figures as Bishop Smith led the way with a game-high 21 points. Garrett Silcott (17) and Jehu Lafeuillee (12 points) contributed double figure scoring as well.
Shiloah Blevins led Rio Grande with 16 points.
IU East improves to 15-9 overall and a league best 11-1 in the RSC. Rio Grande falls to 11-15 overall and 4-8 in conference play.
IU East travels to West Virginia for a clash at the top of the River States Conference East Division on Feb. 8. The contest against WVU Tech starts at 3 p.m.
