The Northeastern Lady Knights lived up to their preseason hype in their home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 5, by blasting Adams Central 71-21.
The outcome of the game was never in doubt. The Knights used a high octane offense and a disruptive defense to race to a 22-8 first quarter lead and expanded it to 39-10 by halftime. The Knights pushed their advantage to 30 points early in the third quarter to trigger a running clock for the balance of the game. The Knight defense held the Jets to single digits in every quarter.
The Jets did not have an answer for the Knight backcourt duo of Ady Kircher and Ava Mikesell. Kircher scored 24 points to outscore the entire Adams Central team before leaving the game midway through the third quarter. Mikesell tossed in 17 points, stole the ball three times, handed out four assists and also sat out the fourth quarter. Mackenzie Johnson grabbed a game high of 10 rebounds. Karri Gammon flirted with a double-double, scoring eight points and pulling down eight rebounds.
Knight head coach Cody Dudley went deep into his bench with 13 players seeing action.
