Two free outdoor concerts are scheduled in the coming days.
Cambridge City Main Street is offering the first of its three summer concerts at Creitz Park on Saturday, June 8, a couple blocks north of the downtown area along U.S. 40.
The concert, “The Elton John Experience by Tommy Lee Thompson,” is set for 6-9 p.m. Kaitlyn Davis is the concert’s opening act.
All concerts take place on a temporary stage behind Cambridge City’s fire station, 127 W. Maple St. Those attending should bring chairs, blankets or tailgate seating for the grassy area. Food will be for sale.
It will be a busy morning, afternoon and evening in Cambridge City.
June 8 also is the opening day of the town’s farmers market from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in a new location — the parking lot next to American Legion, 25 W. Church St.
It’s also the day for the annual jar and antiques show at Creitz Park, which draws collectors from around the nation. Marty Troxell organizes the event from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Proceeds benefit Lincoln High School’s band and for town promotion.
Cambridge City Main Street is also planning the next outdoor concerts, July 13 and Aug. 10, on days when other events in town might attract visitors.
Then, two days after the first concert, Richmond Community Orchestra will perform pops and classical music in a relaxed atmosphere at 7 p.m. Monday, June 10, in Glen Miller Park, 2200 E. Main St., Richmond, at the Roosevelt Hill bandshell.
Concertgoers are encouraged to bring seating and a picnic dinner or snacks. Afterward, donations can be made to the orchestra for its operating expenses and introductory violin lessons for local children if desired.
Orchestra musicians range from high school students to retirees and working professionals in careers such as health care, dentistry, information technology and music education.
RCO’s rain date is June 17.
