• Next heavy trash pickup day is Wednesday, May 1. Please do not use the rolling carts on heavy trash day. Heavy trash pickup is for larger items such as mattresses, couches, cabinets, etc. Residents may set out 1-3 items. Best Way Disposal recommends residents call ahead if they plan to set out large items; toll free 1-800-745-5714.
• Next Milton town workshop is Thursday, May 9, at 6 p.m. and the next council meeting is Tuesday, May 14, at 6 p.m. The public may attend both meetings. Please contact the clerk’s office if you would like to add your name to the agenda.
• Clerk’s office will offer extended hours May 10, 13-14. Open 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
• Dumpsters are available at the ball park for spring cleaning, one for brush and another for large trash items. Same Best Way Disposal rules apply to the dumpster as usual – no tires, dirt, rock, concrete, construction and/or demolition material, liquid wastes (i.e., paint cans with liquid paint still in them), motor oil, car batteries, acids, herbicides & pesticides, pool chemicals, e-waste (i.e., computers, monitors, televisions), yard waste & landscaping debris, etc. Gate is kept locked; contact the clerk’s office to arrange for access.
• Save the date … the Milton Alumni Reunion for anyone who attended Milton School and/or graduated from there will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024, at the John H. Miller Community Center, 2900 N. Park Road, Connersville, Indiana 47331.
• Mark your calendars … Milton-Washington Township Fire/Rescue volunteer fire department will host a breakfast on Saturday, June 29, at the Milton fire house from 8 a.m. to ?. Free will donation. Breakfast includes biscuits and gravy, sausage, eggs, and pancakes, served with milk, orange juice or coffee. 

Milton park crowdfunding campaign update

The boot drive originally scheduled for March 23 was held for Saturday, April 13, and netted over $1500 for the Park Fund. Volunteer fire dept. assisted with the boot drive. 

The park board says, “A big thank you to everyone who came out to help, and all who donated to the boot drive for the new park!”

As of press time, nearly $17,000 had been raised through Patronicity and there were 26 days left till the May 18 deadline to help the park board reach their goal of $50,000 in order to receive the matching grant as part of the IHCDA CreatINg Places program.

Funds from this campaign will be used to landscape the park, repave existing basketball courts, add fencing, construct shelters and install safe play equipment.

Milton bicentennial update

• Milton Bicentennial Mugs are now available at the clerk’s office, 101 N. Central Avenue, Milton. The Sharpshooter coffee mug features the basketball logo in gold on maroon. White mugs with an image of one of the many mills, for which Milton is named, are also available. Minimum $10 donation and you will receive your choice of mug. All proceeds go to the Park Fund.
• Milton town council members are still asking citizens to supply a photo of a loved one who served in the military or as a police officer or firefighter. Photos can be dropped off at the clerk’s office, in a folder with name of veteran and contact information so it can be returned to the family. The town of Milton wishes to honor all our veterans and emergency personnel who served to protect all citizens.
• Milton Bicentennial will begin with fireworks on Friday, July 5. Celebration is expected to kick off at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 6, with a flag raising, parade, guest speakers, music and more.
• The Bicentennial has been called a “once in a lifetime event” and volunteers are needed. If you want to volunteer, share ideas or get involved in the bicentennial celebration, reach out to council members or the clerk’s office, and/or attend the next council meeting or workshop for more information.
