The state swim meet kicked off Friday, Feb. 23, at the Indiana University Natatorium, on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. Preliminary rounds were conducted; the top eight finishers in each event advanced to the championship round, and the ninth through 16th place finishers advanced to the consolation round, both on Saturday, Feb. 24.
Richmond junior Owen Fowler was the only area swimmer to advance to compete on Saturday.
Fowler advanced to the consolation round in the 100 Yard Freestyle. He established a new school record with a time of 46.81 and finished 15th. Fowler also tied for 16th place in the 50 Yard Freestyle with a time of 21.38 but lost in a swim-off for the right to advance.
Carter Ramsey from Hagerstown finished 31st in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:51.44.
Aaron Turner from Hagerstown finished 24th in the 200 Yard IM with a time of 1:59.58. Turner finished 22nd in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 59.82.
The team of Payne Forrest, Greyson Farmer, Masson Heiny and Fowler finished 26th in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:30.21.
The team of Mason Burns, Farmer, Heiny and Fowler finished 28th in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:21.24.
Fowler placed 16th in the consolation race on Saturday with a time of 47.47.
Carmel won the state championship with a score of 409.
