Military veterans are invited to some free breakfasts and/or Veterans Day programs on Friday, Nov. 10 at local schools, in addition to the following day’s parade and program at Wayne County Veterans Memorial Park.

Veterans Day is Saturday, Nov. 11, marking the 105th anniversary of the end of World War I.

Here are a few events planned:

Nov. 10

  • Northeastern High School: Breakfast for veterans and their families begins there at 8:45 a.m., followed by the program at 9:15 a.m. in the gymnasium. Those attending should enter through Door 18 at the south end of the school, 7295 N. U.S. 27, Fountain City. The program has been arranged through the cooperation of all Northeastern Wayne schools staff and students.
  • Western Wayne Elementary: Veterans are invited to be recognized during a 9 a.m. program at the school, 801 E. Delaware St., Cambridge City. Music teachers Beth Bowman and Ryan Schunk will lead grades 3-6 in patriotic songs. Students are bringing photos of a veteran they know to build a Wall of Honor. In addition, American Legion’s David Siggers is teaching fourth graders about flags before the program.
  • Centerville-Abington Elementary: A veterans’ breakfast begins at 9 a.m. in the cafeteria, 200 W. South St., Centerville. Reservations were due Nov. 7 at 765-855-5132.
  • Lincoln Middle/High School: A public program begins at 10 a.m. in the gym, 205 E. Parkway Drive, Cambridge City.
  • Although Richmond High School is not organizing a public event that day, students will watch a video honoring local veterans.

Nov. 11

  • Parade and ceremony: The local veterans’ parade leaves Mary Scott Park, 105 N.W. Eighth St., Richmond, at 9 a.m. Richmond High School’s band will march the route. An 11 a.m. ceremony follows at Veterans Memorial Park just off the first block East Main Street, Richmond. 765-983-7275.
  • Meal: A pitch-in begins at 1 p.m. in American Legion Post 169, 25 W. Church St., Cambridge City. Dinner will be served upstairs, hosted by the auxiliary. All veterans and their families are invited. 765-478-5004
