Sunrise Therapeutic Riding Center aims to add new monthly opportunities for area adults and children to spend time with horses.

At least six participants are needed to offer the non-riding groups, although there’s a possibility of riding in the near future. All will take place at 2670 Minneman Road in Richmond.

Sessions will be 60 to 90 minutes from November through March, with the option to continue in the spring.

One group is geared to ages 60-plus who want to learn grooming and handling basics while they enjoy an assigned horse’s company. Participants can pay $25 per session or volunteer two to four hours monthly to waive the fee.

Veterans interested in being near horses can learn grooming, groundwork, obstacles and challenges at no charge. They can bring one family member.

Two groups are geared for children. Saddle Up & Show is designed for ages 5 and older who want to learn show grooming, in-hand patterns and halter classes. Another group for ages 10-plus seriously interested in owning horses focuses on grooming, groundwork, and how to care for tack, wounds, health and stalls. Both kids’ groups are $25 per session.
