The city of Richmond is moving forward with the design of a Depot District plaza.

The Board of Public Works and Safety on June 15 approved a contract with Clark Dietz to design the North Ninth Street Park Plaza. Cost for the design work is $40,000, which Richmond Redevelopment Commission funds will cover.

One block of North Ninth Street between North E Street and Elm Place will be converted into the plaza. That block will be under the new U.S. 27 bridge once it has been constructed.

Clark Dietz will provide preconstruction drawings, a conceptual site plan layout, preliminary site plans, lighting and electrical drawing and specifications, cost estimates, and final construction plans. The company will also field construction questions and facilitate two shareholder meetings to receive community input into the project.

Board members also approved two contracts that will lead to milling and repaving 3.4 miles of 28 roads as part of the Indiana Department of Transportation’s Community Crossings program. One contract accepts the $699,727.44 state contribution to pay for half the project cost. The second contract awards the $1,374,060.90 project to Milestone Contractors.

Work will begin in September, and Milestone has six weeks to complete the project.

Richmond Police Department was given approval to purchase four 2023 Dodge Charger police cars from Fletcher Chrysler of Franklin. Cost will be $139,812, which is a discounted price because Fletcher received the state bid for police vehicles.
