A nearly two-hour standoff was resolved on Richmond’s south side Thursday evening (March 5) that began after the discovery of a person who had been shot in the leg.
At 4:04 p.m., second-shift Richmond Police Department patrol officers and Richmond Fire Department medics were dispatched to an unknown call in the 800 block of South G Street.
Once on scene, first responders located a victim who had been shot in the right leg. The victim was treated on scene by medics and transported to Reid Health.
One person was located in the basement but refused to come out to law enforcement commands, according to Capt. Curt Leverton.
Richmond SWAT and negotiators were called to the scene.
After an almost two-hour standoff with law enforcement, Alexander Irwin, 29, of Richmond was located in the basement and taken into custody.
Investigators from Richmond Police Department were called to the scene for processing. Evidence was located by investigators.
Irwin was placed under arrest on preliminary charges of battery with a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness and resisting law enforcement.
Leverton said the investigation will continue.
