Richmond Power & Light customers are urged to use the SmartHub online tool to monitor and manage their accounts.

General Manager Tony Foster explained the digital system during the RP&L board’s April 1 meeting. Richmond Common Council members comprise the RP&L board.

Foster said that since the utility began using SmartHub in 2021, it mails 824 fewer bills each month because customers use electronic bills and auto pay. Every customer moving away from a mailed bill saves the utility money each month. The 824 fewer bills saves about $7,500 a year.

Customers access SmartHub through an app or through the RP&L website, rp-l.com. Search for “Richmond Power” and register to activate an account.

In SmartHub, customers can see an overview of their account and their electric usage compared to the average temperature. They can also pay their bill through SmartHub.

Foster also informed the board about the electric generation mix used by the Indiana Municipal Power Agency, the wholesale power provider for RP&L. Coal accounts for 60.4% of the power, followed by nuclear at 19.9%, renewables at 10.2% and natural gas at 9.5%.

Board members unanimously awarded a contract for a Class 7 bucket truck to Altec Industries of Indianapolis for $200,002. The price includes a $35,000 reduction for a trade-in truck. The truck for the line department is included in the 2024 budget.
