RICHMOND, Ind. – William Lee Townsend, age 85, of Richmond, Indiana, died Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at Reid Health.
Born January 5, 1938, in Bluefield, West Virginia, to L. H. Harris and Nannie J. Woods, Bill came to Richmond in 1949 with his mother. He has lived here most of his life.
His mother married Samuel Townsend, who later adopted him while he was in high school. After graduating high school, he worked at Belden Corporation for 45 years, retiring in 2002. Watching his children grow up has been a big blessing. Bill loved music of most kinds but preferred gospel music. He has sung in church groups and choir. Bill was worship song leader for about 30 years and was active in many other areas. He married Mildred Abrams in 1980 and blended their families. He loved to garden, raising vegetables, canning, and sharing with family and friends. Bill also enjoyed watching sports.
